Is the Bible Trustworthy, Part II

There has and always will be objections to the Bible. But it has withstood the test of time, and is still with us today. We have in our homes access to this most important resource. You don’t even really need to go out and buy one, as there are free online Bibles that you can read anytime! Previous generations didn’t have this amazing access to these words from God. They only wished that they did. Many, especially in communist countries, still don’t have access to Bibles because they are banned. Yet, we do, and ironically enough, many today dismiss it. Let’s see about some of these objections.

The Bible is just a book and it was written by men!

No, it’s not just “a book,” it’s a collection of books that were written by several authors throughout a period of over 1,400-2,000+ years, all with one coherent message. No other religious text can claim that. Not the Quran (Islamic scripture). Not the Vedas (Hindu scripture). Not Buddhist scripture. And, so what if it was written “by men?” Would it make a difference if it was written by God? Newsflash: ALL books are written by men! Science books are written by men. School textbooks are written by men. Doctors learn from other men and women in medical school, and they’re told that what they learn while there will be irrelevant by the time they graduate! So, this “well, it’s written by men,” argument is irrelevant. It doesn’t mean anything, but is used as a way to dismiss the proponents of the Bible.

The Bible has been used as a tool to control people!

Unfortunately true, but who exactly is at fault here? It was used by the Roman Catholic Church, which chained up the Bibles to the church pulpits and wouldn’t allow people to read it for themselves. They declared themselves to be “above” the laity and told only the parts of the Bible that they wanted others to hear. It is still used to this day, by the way, in both Catholic and Protestant churches. The Bible was used by American Southern slave owners as a way to control their slaves. The Bible has been used in ways that are downright horrific, but that does not mean that the Bible itself is “evil.” The Bible is a tool, and has been used for tremendous good, as well. It has been invaluable to me. David says that God’s Words “are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold” (Ps 19:11, NASB) and again, “The words of the Lord are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times. You shall keep them, O Lord, You shall preserve them from this generation forever” (Ps 12:6, NKJV).

The Bible has been tampered with!

This is an interesting one and unfortunately, it is somewhat true. I personally don’t believe that our modern English Bibles are inerrant. I believe that Scripture is God-inspired; that is that God inspired men to write down His Words. But Satan is crafty, and he has brought much confusion by directly attacking what God has said. I’ve heard that the greatest lie that Satan has told is that he has convinced man that he does not exist. I disagree. The greatest lie he’s told is the same lie that he told the woman in the Garden; that is, “Did God really say?” He muddles the water, as it is written, “How can you say, ‘We are wise, And the law of the LORD is with us’? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes Has made it into a lie. The wise men are put to shame, They are dismayed and caught; Behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord, And what kind of wisdom do they have?” (Jer 8:8-9, NASB, underline mine). Other translations render verse 9, “Behold, the word of Yahweh they have rejected and their wisdom is their own.” Even in the prophet Jeremiah’s time, around 600 BC, there was scribal corruption going on. This is probably why there are 50,000+ denominations in the US alone. There should only be one denomination – Christianity. As a website reads, “Many English Bible versions have twisted or removed the truth by:
  1. eliminating some verses
  2. eliminating some words
  3. wrongly punctuating
  4. wrong tense
  5. wrong replacement of words
  6. wrong plurality and singularity of words (And many more)”
The Bible is not ours to edit as we see fit, to fit it to our theology! That’s called eisegesis. What we want to do is “exegesis,” that is reading the text in context, considering the writer, the intended audience, the time period, cultural considerations, etc. Unfortunately, some translators “slip-in” their own doctrines into the texts, even if unintentionally. It’s a human bias that exists even with the best of intentions. It’s not just in theology, either, but in just about every study, you will find this bias from the authors.

In the 2nd century AD, many Jews were converting to Christianity, using the OT texts to prove that Yeshua was the Messiah. So, the Jewish scribes changed the texts, and they did it cleverly. They didn’t change it entirely, but added “punctuation” – a dot here, an extra comma over there – and it was enough to change the original masoretic text of the OT, which is what is used to translate the OT in our modern Bibles! This is seen when the OT texts in our Bibles are compared to the Greek Septuagint (LXX) and the Dead Sea Scrolls. Our modern day Bibles say something different than what the Septuagint and the Scrolls say! This could be proof that the texts were tampered with!1

There are also so many Bible versions out there: KJV, NKJV, NIV, NASB, ESB, NLT, ERV, The Message Bible, etc. Do you want to know why there are so many revisions of the Bible? The more modern translations have been corrupted by Luciferian-worshipping occultists! The problem is not the texts themselves as they are in the original languages of Hebrew and Greek. Both the NLT and NIV have had their texts altered by having passages removed, either partially or completely! The Message Bible actually has occult language in the “Lord’s Prayer.” In the place of “May Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven,” they instead place in, “as above, so below.1” These, along with other “easy-to-read” versions, are Satanic “bibles” and no one should read them!

There is a story about how these came about. In the late part of the 1800’s, there was a Luciferian group known as the Theosophical Society2. It was founded by Helena Blavatsky, and Henry Steel Olcott. It is based around the Gnostic teachings that a knowledge of God may be achieved through (New Age) spirituality, or intuition. The Gnostics were heretics that claimed to know certain things about God (Gnosis being Greek for “knowledge”). Theosophy is heretical, as well, and aims to:
  1. Form a nucleus of the universal brotherhood of humanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste, or color
  2. Encourage the study of comparative religion, philosophy, and science
  3. Investigate unexplained laws of Nature and the powers latent in human beings
If you look at their website, they are at the heart of this “Chris-lam” (Christian + Islam) “co-exist” movement.

Blavatsky also founded “Lucifer” magazine. She and her editor and others began to target churches to subtlety and quietly infiltrate the churches and introduce Lucifer’s doctrines onto an unsuspecting mass of people. The result? Well, around that same time, Theosophical propagandists joined the “Bible Revision Committee” and introduced texts not found in the original KJV! Under the guise of making the Bible easier to read to English readers, they introduced false doctrines directly into the Bible! These so-called “bibles” were written, as a way to introduce doctrines of demons into our churches. Theosophy is a philosophy of devil worship. It was formed to assault God’s Word! But, God will preserve His Word forever! “You shall keep them, O Lord, You shall preserve them from this generation forever.”

So, if not them, what Bible versions should we read? Well, I would recommend literal versions such as Young’s Literal (YLT) or the Concordant Literal, published by the Concordant Publishing Concern. With the Corcordant Literal, each word in Greek has just one definition. They were very careful to convey the original message. It may be a little difficult to read, as the language is a bit outdated. If that’s too much, then I guess any Bible will to do – but – it’s very important to get a concordance, like Strong’s, to get the accurate meaning of phrases. In fact, it’s nearly impossible to study your Bible without one! Luckily, Strong’s Concordance is online and you can look up any word for yourself. Instead of trusting someone else for the definition, you can look up what the word means, and it even has links to passages where that same word is used. It’s a fantastic tool, and as you will see, I use it quite extensively. I don’t know about you, but I want to know the truth!
